The number of developers hoping to achieve a green certificate for their buildings is on the rise since a policy change in 2011 which requires them the take the Green Building Council’s assessment if they want to be granted floor area concessions. Developers are awarded extra floor area if they include green features on their buildings.
The Green Building Council found that there was an almost 100% increase in the number of projects registered for the assessment from 109 in 2011 to 194 last year. So far there have been 65 projects registered this year. 44% of these projects were residential developments, 17% were commercial and 18% were government buildings.
